What is an overdraft?

What is an overdraft?

An overdraft occurs when you spend more than you have in your checking account. We understand life is busy and you may lose track of how much money is in your account. And for this reason, we offer several options to make sure you are covered.
What is Courtesy Pay?

What is Courtesy Pay?

Courtesy Pay is TDECU’s overdraft protection service* for checking accounts for the payment of checks, electronic transfers, telephone transfers, preauthorized payments from Bill Pay, recurring debit card transactions, and ACH drafts and debits if your account becomes overdrawn. This optional service offers an added layer of security for accidental overdrafts or inadvertent errors that you might experience from time to time.

Please also keep in mind:

  • A per-transaction fee of $32 will apply when Courtesy Pay is used to cover transactions.
  • Courtesy Pay is not available for Money Market Checking accounts.
  • Federal regulations require that you opt in (provide us with your consent) for Courtesy Pay to allow the payment of everyday non-recurring debit card transactions and ATM transactions.

How does Courtesy Pay work?

You must be over 18 years of age and a member in good standing. Your account must be open for at least 60 days and you are making regular deposits into your account.

Courtesy Pay covers the items listed above* but does not cover ATM transactions and every day non-recurring debit card transactions (such as debit card purchases of groceries, gas, or coffee).

In order for these to be covered, you must OPT-IN and provide us with your consent to allow for their payment.

If you choose to not enroll into Courtesy Pay, and your account is not set up with other overdraft protection services (such as automatic transfers from savings, or a Cash $tash line of credit), then transactions on insufficient funds will be declined at the point-of-sale.

Courtesy Pay covers overdrafts:
