What is it?Federally guaranteed government loan in the student’s name. It is not based on credit score. You have to be enrolled for 6+ hours per semester. Interest RateFor unsubsidized loans with first disbursement after July 1, 2008, the rate is 6.8%. For subsidized loans with first disbursement after July 1, 2009, the rate is 5.6%. (Federal guidelines determine unsubsidized and subsidized portions of loans – it is based on financial need.
TDECU Stafford loans have a 1% origination fee.

There is a 3% loan origination fee.
Annual Loan Limits$5,500 for first year dependent students
$6,500 for second year dependent students
$7,500 for third and fourth year dependent students
$9,500 for first year independent students
$10,500 for second year independent students
$12,500 for third and fourth year independent students
Parents may borrow up to the cost of attendance per student minus other financial aid.
Repayment BeginsSix months after graduating or ceasing half-time enrollment and can be repaid over a 10 year term.Six months after graduating or ceasing half-time enrollment and can be repaid over a 10 year term.30 to 60 days after final disbursement and deferment is possible. Can be repaid for a 10 year term.
