Hurricane Ike: TDECU Update (1:33 PM Thursday)

Kathy just forwarded the latest Ike update for Victoria from their Office of Emergency Management.  Note that a mandatory evacuation has not occurred as the storm has taken a more northerly course relative to Victoria, but that officials are encouraging voluntary evacuations for everyone in Victoria County:
(VICTORIA, TEXAS)  While Hurricane IKE has tracked slightly to the north since last night, it has grown into a very large and powerful hurricane. Given the size and current landfall projection of IKE, Victoria County will feel the effects of this hurricane. We have a high probability  to receive hurricane force winds, a strong storm surge in the south and east part of the County and possible flooding in low lying areas from heavy rains. At this time we are NOT issuing a mandatory evacuation.  However we strongly encourage a voluntary evacuation for everyone in Victoria County. This storm can still change course and devastate our County. Anyone in the County living in a mobile home should not use it for shelter during this hurricane. We are very concerned about the Bloomington/Placedo area, especially the low lying area southeast of Hwy 616. This area will be especially vulnerable to high winds, a strong storm surge as high as seven feet, and low land flooding. We encourage all residents in the Bloomington/Placedo area to evacuate. Remember that no shelters will be opened in Victoria. It is very important that before residents evacuate they put their garbage cans, barbecue pits and other outside loose items in a secure place. Any loose items around the home will become projectiles in hurricane strength winds.
